Merry Christmas!

Here's our Christmas card for 2013.

Here's some of our homemade Christmas decorations and how we made our Christmas memorable in the Caribbean.
Paper Stars

Stocking banner

Snow flakes

A collection of Lincoln Christmas crafts that we hung on our door.

Christmas cards

We even stung popcorn on string to put on our tree. First time I've done popcorn on the tree. I love how it looks but boy does it take a long time to thread. I was also worried about ants eating the popcorn off the tree. If you leave any food around here the ants know where to find it. But so far it's been okay.

Paper chain

Paper Stars

I love how I kept true to my word and didn't buy any Christmas decorations. I was a lot of fun making them. Lincoln help me with everything. Yes it did take more time but it was so much fun spending the time with Lincoln each day while Lacey napped to help make our house look more like Christmas. I love keeping Christmas simple and focusing on the true meaning and thats what its all about.

Christmas treats we brought our friends here.

What do you teach your kids about Christmas?
I've been trying to focus on the true meaning of Christmas this year, since Lincoln is getting older and he is understanding so much these days. To help him understand that Jesus was born on Christmas dad, so we celebrate Christmas because it is Jesus' birthday... I've also been explaining to Lincoln that the reason why we give gifts if because the 3 wise men gave gifts to Jesus, so to remember Jesus we give gifts to others... Gifts we can give to Jesus is trying to be  like him, we can do this by being kind to our family and friends....I love the tradition of Santa and I want to keep doing with my kids. So I am teaching them that Santa is magic, rather then saying santa is real.

Weekly updates: Chirstmas crafts, PJ party, Twist N' Shake, Santa...

We have family coming tomorrow, Josh's parents and sister Sara. So excited!!! It came so fast.... Well it's been 8 months since we've seen them. Which has felt like forever... But at the same time it has gone fast in some ways, with trying to get settle on St. Eustatius, looking forward to my mom and Byron coming. Then having to move islands. Getting settled and learning a new island. Then looking forward to my dad and brother's visit, then getting ready for Christmas and then the Harker's visit is here. We are not coming home to Canada for Christmas. We are having a Caribbean Christmas, our one and only one away from home and family gets to come to us :)

I'm also more the ready to have my husband back. 4 more days!!! It's been a long semester...without seeing Josh much. I've learned to some how keep busy at night after I put the kids to bed, by finishing cleaning up, house chorus, blogging while josh is at school studying. I miss Josh like crazy! But at the same time I think I've handle the not seeing him a whole lot pretty good. The kids do pretty good with how little we see him but this past week has been hold on the both of them. Lincoln cries each night for daddy to come home and Lacey will sit at the front door and hold her shoes when Josh is getting really in the morning and will burst into tears when he leaves. Lacey and Lincoln loves their dad so much and some days it's hard not having him around as much as we would like. We are all looking forward to a break and some much needed family time.

heres what we've been up to this past week..
We have been so busy with doing Christmas crafts this last bit. Lincoln loves his crafts and displaying them around the house. It's begging to look like Christmas with out the snow. You might have noticed Lincoln'd hurt head. He crashed on his bike. It was a tiny cut, but sure did bleed a lot and wouldn't let me put a bandaid on it yet, se we started a craft to take his mind off of it. We now have a helmet for him, thanks to Nana Yamamoto.

Lacey even got to take part on making marshmallow snowman. She LOVES crafts!.. and gets so EXCITED and PROUD of herself from her accomplishments and being included in craft time.

We also got a Real Christmas Tree. I can't remember the last time we got one growing up, but this year it was the only kind that made sense, since we would only be here for one Christmas. It actually feels alike Christmas in our little house, well kinda till you look out side and see the palm trees and there is no snow. Crazy thing is the Christmas tree we bought is from Ontario Canada. They came all the way from back home. I'm actually loving a real Christmas tree, I love the scent it gives off. Lincoln refers to our tree as our Christmas. He was so proud of himself as he picked our tree out all by him self. All our decorations are home made. I'm not spending any money on orterments this year. We made a paper chain, strung popcorn, and made craft to hang on the tree. More pictures of the tree to come.

We had a PJ Movie Party with friends. The kids had lots of fun watching Christmas movie and eating popcorn and treats.

 Matching blonde twin boys.

The Blue Mall in Cupe Coy has a play centre called Shake N' Twist that the kids love. This was our rescind time going. It's nice that Lacey can explore and have fun to while the big kids have the time of there life. We also lucked out and Santa was coming to the play center when we were there.

Lincoln was so excited to see Santa. Where Lacey was very interested in Santa and watched him the whole time, but wasn't impressed to sit on his lap. Lacey knows how to say "ho ho ho". It's pretty cute!

It's been quite raining this last week. But when it raisin here its usually for max 30 mins down poor then it hot again. Lincoln loves playing in the rain. when it rains it get more humid and hotter.

Lincoln's puppy houses. He knows how to have fun after a grocery trip.

Lacey loves playing with the wooden trains, good thing Christmas is coming because she doesn't have many girl toys here.

A little beach time to cool off.

Here's a land crab. These land crabs live in our fate community and they dig holes into the ground. They remind me of gofers back home. This one was the biggest I've seen so far. He's claw was the size of my hand and he was at least 12 inches wide or wider.

Lacey snacking while Lincoln plays in the pool.

Thats all for this weeks post!

Weekly update: beach fun, painting, face time....

Life in the Caribbean in December is wonderful... well for the most part. The weather is perfect. We miss family and the kids and I never saw Josh just due to final exams :(  Soon we will get Josh back for some family time :) But the weather is amazing, so we try to stay busy at the beach. It has cooled off but still gets up to +30's and the feel like temp is at least +35- 40. So we can do things outside without roasting in the sun and dying of the heat.  We still haven't worn pants yet.... I do miss the snow, as weird as that sounds, but not the freezing cold - 20 temperatures though. It just doesn't feel like Christmas, while driving down the road in our car wearing our swim suits, pass the palm trees and beaches, listening to Christmas music.

Here is where we went to the beach one day and collected sea shells to make our Caribbean snowman out of sea shells. It's not Christmas time with out making snowman. Lincoln is also into collection soda caps. You can usually find them on the beach and at the corner stores (Chinese stores).
Kids on a mission.

Collecting their sea shells, so we can make our snowman.

Winter is called high season here. Thats when all the tourists come down south to enjoy the heat. In high season you see tonnes of different boats in the bay, its pretty neat.

This is a horrible picture I took, but its the only one I got of the Caribbean sea shell snowman we made.

We found a tiki man at Simpson Bay beach that the kids love to sit on.

The twin blonde boys. We still get asked when we are out if Lincoln and Eli are twins. Nope just really good friends. It's not often you see two blonde boys in the Caribbean.
Lacey loves playing in the sand and collection sea shell with Lincoln. She loves being independent and doing the same thing as Lincoln.

We do still take it easy some days with just hanging out at home in our PJ's. This is Lincoln's way of watching movies, up-side-down. Must be comfy or something.

Christmas craft Lincoln and I have been making, candy cane reindeer .

We also did some painting with our feet and hands. These two are Lincolns creations. he had so much fun getting his feet painted. Lincoln said "it tinkled and was cold".

Lacey also had to get in on the fun. She thought this was the best thing ever. This was her hand Christmas tree with finger print orterments.

Lincoln being Lincoln. I LOVE this boy! He has so much energy, loves having fun, never stops moving. He really knows how to enjoy every minute of life. He is very compassiate and caring to Lacey and love sot help her. He is also a great example in teaching Lacey how to do things.

Sunday afternoon Lincoln face timing with Uncle Scott and Aunt Melissa in our comfies. He wanted to show them the gingerbread play dough we made. Lincoln called it smelly play dough.

Prayer

I had to give a talk in church a month go or so. Since family wasn't able to come listen to my talk in person I thought I would post it on the blog for them to see.

Receiving answers to prayers
Elder Boyd K Packer has this to say about prayer – “We succeed in the church by teaching the members to pray. Even our little ones are taught to fold their arms and bow their heads and with whisper coaching from their parents they are taught to pray. There is one part of prayer – the answer part- that perhaps, by comparison we neglect.”

My talk today is on just that, the answer part of prayer. I’m basing some of my talk from a talk given by Elder Richard G Scott called “Learning to Recognize Answers to Prayer.”

Recognizing answers to prayers.
Here’s an experience Elder Richard G Scott shared – “Across from me a woman sat sobbing. With tear-filled eyes, she told me, “I don’t know what I believe anymore.” She spoke of having struggled and prayed many days to know how to make a vitally important decision in her life, without success. She anguished, “I don’t know what to do. If you’ll tell me what to do, I’ll do it.” With her hand on the scriptures, she said, “God told us He would help us. He answers everybody else’s prayers. Why won’t He answer mine?”

Have you ever felt this way? Or had a similar experience with pray and feeling like you don’t receive answers to some of your prayers. When answers to urgent prayer don’t seem to come when we are wanting them to?  You need to remember that our Heavenly Father listens to every pray and I also believe he answers them too, I don’t believe he ignores any of us…. We might feel this way because we don’t understand some truths about prayer, or because we don’t recognize answers when they come.
Elder Richard G Scott goes on to say… “Our Heavenly Father did not put us on earth to fail but to succeed . It may seem inconsistent, but that is why recognizing answers to prayer can sometimes be very difficult. Some face life with only their own experience and capacity to help them. Others seek, through prayer, divine inspiration to know what to do. When required, they qualify for power beyond their own capacity to do it.
Communication with our Father in Heaven is not a trivial matter. It is a sacred privilege. It is based upon unchanging principles. When we receive help from our Father in Heaven, it is in response to faith, obedience, and the proper use of agency.” - - close quote.
We live in a world offering fast food, instant messaging, on-demand movies, and immediate answers to the most trivial questions, found instantly from our phones or by googling it on the internet. So why not prayers?
President Uchtdorf describes patience as “the ability to put our desires on hold for a time, it is a precious and rare virtue. We want what we want, and we want it now. Therefore, the very idea of patience may seem unpleasant and, at times, bitter. Nevertheless, without patience, we cannot please God; we cannot become perfect. Indeed, patience is a purifying process that refines understanding, deepens happiness, focuses action, and offers hope for peace.”
Every one of us is called to wait in our own way. We wait for answers to prayers. We wait for things which, at the time, may appear to be so right and so good to us that we can’t possibly imagine why Heavenly Father would delay the answer.
“Our ability to practice patience is tied very closely to faith in our Heavenly Father and his prayer. Actually, when we are unduly impatient, we are suggesting that we know what is best—better than does God. Or, at least, we are asserting that our timetable is better than His. We can grow in faith only if we are willing to wait patiently for God's purposes and patterns to unfold in our lives, on His timetable.”
We are here on earth to gain experience we can obtain in no other way. We are given the opportunity to grow, to develop, and to gain spiritual maturity. To do that, we must learn to apply truth. How we face challenges and resolve difficult problems is crucially important to our happiness.
To better understand prayer, I like to see in my mind a child approaching trustingly a loving, kind, wise, understanding Father, who wants us to succeed. Don’t worry about your clumsily expressed feelings. Just talk to your Father. He hears every prayer and answers it in His way.
“Elder Richard G Scott goes on to say...When we explain a problem and a proposed solution, sometimes He answers yes, sometimes no. Often He withholds an answer, not for lack of concern, but because He loves us—perfectly. He wants us to apply truths He has given us. For us to grow, we need to trust our ability to make correct decisions. We need to do what we feel is right. In time, He will answer. He will not fail us.
I have described the absolute reality of our relationship with our Father. There is nothing about us He does not know. He is conscious of our every need and could provide all of the answers. Yet, because His purpose is our eternal happiness, He encourages us to make the correct choices.” - - -Closed quote
Sometimes, like a child, we misbehave, act unwisely, and feel we cannot approach our Heavenly Father with a problem. When communication is strained, how wonderful it is to have a Mediator who works things out when we obey His counsel and repent. Such is our Elder Brother, the Savior.
Perhaps Oliver Cowdery’s experiences were recorded for us to understand how to pray and how to recognize answer to prayer. Oliver was told: “That assuredly as the Lord liveth, … even so surely shall you receive a knowledge of whatsoever things you shall ask in faith, with an honest heart, believing that you shall receive. …“I will tell you in your mind and in your heart, by the Holy Ghost.” (thats found in Doctrine & Covenants 8:1–2)
When we receive an impression in our heart, we can use our mind either to rationalize it away or to accomplish it. Be careful what you do with an impression from the Lord.
Oliver was further taught: “Remember that without faith you can do nothing; therefore ask in faith”.
“According to your faith shall it be done unto you.” Doctrine & Covenants 8:10-11
“Ask in faith” means ask with confidence in our Heavenly Father. Like many of us, Oliver did not recognize the evidence of answers to prayers already given by the Lord.
If you feel that God has not answered your prayers, ponder the scriptures—then carefully look for evidence in your own life of His having already answered you.
To help each of us recognize answers given, the Lord said: “If you desire a further witness, cast your mind upon the night that you cried unto me in your heart, that you might know concerning the truth of these things.
“The Lord provides further insight by counseling us to study a problem out in our mind and then to ask if it be right: “If it is right I will cause that your bosom shall burn within you; therefore, you shall feel that it is right.
“But if it be not right you shall have no such feelings, but you shall have a stupor of thought.” ---Doctrine & Covenants 8:8-9
It is vitally important to recognize that the Lord also responds a third way to prayer by withholding an answer when the prayer is offered. You might be asking why would He do that? and you might also be seeing that our Heavenly Father doesnt answer our prayers when we want them to be answered.
Elder Richard G Scotts replies to that questions by saying…..He is our perfect Father. He loves us beyond our capacity to understand. He knows what is best for us. He sees the end from the beginning. He wants us to act to gain needed experience:
When He answers yes, it is to give us confidence.
When He answers no, it is to prevent error.
When He withholds an answer, it is to have us grow through faith in Him, obedience to His commandments, and a willingness to act on truth. We are expected to assume accountability by acting on a decision that is consistent with His teachings without prior confirmation. We are not to sit passively waiting or to murmur because the Lord has not spoken. We are to act.
Most often what we have chosen to do is right. He will confirm the correctness of our choices His way. That confirmation generally comes through packets of help found along the way. We discover them by being spiritually sensitive. They are like notes from a loving Heavenly Father as evidence of His approval. If, in trust, we begin something which is not right, He will let us know before we have gone too far. We sense that help by recognizing troubled or uneasy feelings. - - close quote
Nephi’s efforts to obtain the plates of brass show how the principles work. When the older brethren were asked to go, they “murmured” and received no help. Nephi was assured, in 1 Nephi 3: 6-7  “Thou shalt be favored of the Lord, because thou hast not murmured.” Nephi’s words, “I will go and do,” reveal a positive commitment to act and to succeed by using spiritual law.
After two unsuccessful attempts, Nephi remained confident. He crept into the city toward the house of Laban without all the answers. He observed, “I was led by the Spirit, not knowing beforehand the things which I should do,” significantly adding, “Nevertheless I went forth.” thats found in 1 Nephi. 4: 6–7
Nephi was willing to try time and again, using his best efforts. He expressed faith that he would be helped. He refused to be discouraged. But because he acted, had confidence in the Lord, was obedient, and properly used his agency, he received guidance. He was inspired step after step to success, and in his mother’s words was “given … power [to] accomplish the thing which the Lord hath commanded.” thats found in 1 Nephi. 5:8
Nephi knew he was required to confide in God, to exercise faith, and to act so that he could receive help, step by step. He did not murmur nor ask for a full explanation. But, observe particularly, he did not wait passively for help. He acted! By following spiritual law, he was inspired and given power to act.
Sometimes answers to prayer are not recognized because we are too intent on wanting confirmation of our own desires. We fail to see that the Lord would have us do something else. Be careful, seek His will.
When the Lord answers our prayers, it’s easy for us to say, “Lord, forget that request a few days ago. I’ve taken care of it myself.” We think that we have done something ourselves, or that what occurred by divine direction was merely a coincidence. A number of experiences have convinced me otherwise. The Lord constantly blesses our lives, but often we fail to recognize those blessings, as tender mercies of the Lord.
The principles simply will not work when agency is intentionally used to cause contention with the will of God. If there is unrepented sin, we are left to our own devices to flounder and struggle on our own. We can be rescued through our own repentance.
When we seek inspiration to help make decisions, the Lord gives gentle promptings. These require us to think, to exercise faith, to work, to struggle at times, and to act. Seldom does the whole answer to a complex problem come all at once. More often, it comes a piece at a time, without the end in sight.
We can’t talk about receiving answers to prayer without looking at the most important part about prayer and that is gratitude! Our sincere efforts to thank our Heavenly Father. No matter how challenging our circumstances, honest appreciation fills our mind to overflowing with gratitude.
ENDING: I have learned that God doesn't always answer us in the way that we want or according to our timetable, but He does answer us. Our Heavenly Father, at times, uses prayer to test and try our faith. We often want and expect answers almost immediately, but often this is not when answers come. It takes faith and patience to get an answer, but I know that God will always answer us. I know that there is no better way to receive comfort, peace, or truth in this life than through humble prayer.
testimony- i like to bear my testimony that i know this church is true, that the book of mormon was translated by joseph smith and are meant  to help us, and that there is living prophet who leads and guides the church and receive revelation for our time

Weekly Update: Teething, Siblings, Christmas crafts...

Here are a couple more pics we took this week!
14 months

Lacey is now 14 months and 3 of her one year molars have popped through.  That makes it to a total of 7 teeth. She is doing really good with these last 3 teeth coming in. My mom sent one of those amber teething necklaces with my brother when he came last month. So Lacey has been wearing it for just over a month. She still drools and chews on her hand, and is a bit fussy, but I don't think its as bad as the last two teeth. Josh thinks its all in my head and these necklaces don't work. How does he know when he's never home.

Blanket play time with dad before he heads back to school for some more studying. Lately when Daddy come home quick to eat supper with us, all Lincoln wants to do is play with this blanket.

I have noticed Christmas isn't as commercialized like it is back home. It seems to be kept more simple. "What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. What if Christmas...perhaps...means a little bit more!” - The Grinch.  Which I like! Focusing on the true meaning of Christmas. I'm wanting to do this more this year. it's going to be kept very simple...We have been getting ready for Christmas slowly by making Christmas crafts for our decorations. I'm planning on not buying any commercialized decorations. This year we are making them. Lincoln loves it. Each day we do a new craft and our house is slowly looking a bit more like Christmas... I am missing my Christmas decoration that I have back home in storage. But we are going to have to do with out them this year... Lincoln is starting to stat in between the lines when coloring :)

Lincoln attending he's friend Krysten's Birthday Party. He had tones of fun with he's friends, it was pool party.

For a treat this week we got this Nutella snack packs from the Chinese corner store, that the kids love. I haven't seen them in canada, so I'm not sure if you can gets them. They have Nutella and sticks, kinda like the Ritz cheese and sticks. Any who, the kids loved there treats they got. Lacey thinks its the best thing in the world that we let her dip the sticks into the Nutella by her self. She loves being independent.

Lincoln is getting really good at swimming without his puddle jumper.

We checked out the Shake N' Twist play centre this past week. Its located in the Blue Mall in Cupe Coy. It's a fun play,It was so nice to play in a air conditioned play and not have to sweat whir having fun. Lacey was right in on the fun with the other kids too. They have a ball pit, trampoline, play centre..... They even have kid excerise bikes, treadmills, and elliptical. They are so cute and the kids thought they were pretty neat.

Another craft Lincoln and I did. Hand print monsters. We usually do crafts in the afternoon, while Lacey has her nap. She is now just having one nap a day. Lincoln loves his craft time for a quiet activity plus he gets all of mommy's attention.

It amazing me how much Lacey looks up to Lincoln. She's only 14 months but she wants to do everything just like Lincoln. She sure loves her brother a lot. I love seeing the amazing bond they already have together. She is always happy when she is just like him, doing the same thing as him and having fun with him. They know how to laugh their heads on together and just be silly. Lacey is amazing at sharing with Lincoln. They love giving hugs to each other.

Grocery shopping is a weekly outing here. We have learn that the food shipments come in Monday so the best time to go shopping is Tuesday, otherwise you could be buying milk that will be expiring the next day at regular price. All the local workers love saying hi to Lincoln and Lacey. Locals here don't know much about personal space, they always get too close to the kids (plus they speak very loud) and the kids aren't big fans of that... I've started putting on these thin hoodies that I brought for my kids when we go into the grocery store, as we freeze from the A/C that they have pumping. Lacey hasn't worn many long sleeve tops before or not that she would remember. As she has spent half of her life in the Caribbean. So when i out her hoods on she shakes her arms, as if she isn't to happy that there is something on her arms.

Thats all for this weekly update!
